A local football club have showed their caring side by supporting vulnerable people in Irlam and Cadishead.
Irlam Vale FC have been putting in a real ‘team’ effort and have been collecting donations and putting together care packages for vulnerable people in Irlam and Cadishead and have provided them for clients of the locally-operated ‘Select Community Support’ that are doing a fantastic job in the community.
The fantastic team from Irlam Vale FC have also been dropping off weekly care packages to Heartly Green, Moorfield House and Astley Court residential care homes. If that was not enough, they are also supporting local GP surgeries with fortnightly care packages including Mossfield, Chapel Medical and Irlam Clinic and providing care packages for six local nurses to take onto the wards where they are working.
Care packages might contain tea, coffee, sugar, biscuits and toiletries like shampoo, soap or shower gel. Every day essentials that bring just a little bit of comfort to the recipients.
Lindsay Marsden vice-secretary of Irlam Vale FC told the Local Mag website, “Thanks to the generosity of our coaches, parents, friends and family we have been able to make up hundreds of these care packages and get them distributed around the district to those who need support. Our chairman Gareth Doe has been out delivering the packages and the community support the club has received and is giving, is just brilliant to be a part of. We will keep this up for as long as needed and thank everyone for their continued support that enables us to help our great community.”
Lisa Allsey set up ‘Select Community Support’, based at Hamilton Davies House, in 2012 and as well as private clients they have contract services in both Salford and Warrington mainly in Irlam, Cadishead, Glazebrook, Culcheth and Birchwood.
They provide support and personal care services for adults. Everything from dementia care, mental health, accident injury recovery, disability etc. During this crisis they have had to shield some of their staff for 12 weeks and had up to 3 staff off every week self-isolating. They have amazingly not missed or cancelled any calls despite the loss of personnel due to other staff going above and beyond, including owner Lisa working all hours.
Lisa said, “Our local staff have realised they are the frontline in our community and have responded amazingly despite their own fears. We are struggling to get PPE but have had donations and have been supported by Warrington Borough Council and Salford City Council. It does remain a constant worry as every supplier is out of stock and it is being rationed. Support from the community has been amazing, especially on Thursday evenings with the clapping and it is a real boost to the staff who all somehow seem to be on the roads at 8pm!
As well as the great support for our clients from Irlam Vale FC, we had a great little gift sent to us by a client’s family who had bought all of our staff a pamper face mask as they felt it would be a relief after wearing protective masks all day.
We are always looking for new staff with or without experience and have signed up to the council backed Care Heroes publicity campaign to try and encourage new people of any age, to give care work a try.”
Well done to Irlam Vale FC and all at Select Community Support and to everyone supporting each other during these dark times. A big ‘clap’ to you all.
