The main gates at St. Johns Graveyard on Liverpool Road in Irlam have been locked to prevent vehicles entering the site during the current lock-down.
A notice on the gates across the road from the picturesque St. Johns Church says, “At this difficult time, we realise that visiting this special place is comforting to many and we have made the decision to allow continued pedestrian access. On the understanding that people practice careful social distancing.
However, the parking spaces inside the graveyard are very limited and makes this problematic at times, so we ask that you park only in the bays outside the gates.”
The notice goes on to say that grass cutting at the normally well kept, clean and maintained graveyard, has also been put on hold for the time being as the Church is experiencing considerable loss of income while it is closed and can no longer pay for the professional upkeep to be carried out.
