This month is of course November and the time when we come together as a community to remember those that served their country in the armed forces and those that paid the ultimate sacrifice…
Traditionally, our district has supported the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal magnificently. Raising funds to support forces veterans and their families. Buying poppies, wreaths, crosses and other items are by simply making a donation in a collection tin.
Our local main road ‘decked’ with lamppost poppies, a visually stunning tribute to the fallen…
But of course, we are having to do things a lot differently this year in the way that we promote and support The Royal British Legion Poppy appeal. With the number one priority to keep all our volunteers safe.
It has become a tradition in Irlam and Cadishead that we adorn the lamp posts with large poppies. The way it has worked in the past was to pay a £5 donation to sponsor a poppy. Last year the fantastic volunteers put up over 400 poppies and collected over £2000.
David Taylor from the Irlam and Cadishead Poppy Appeal Committee said, “This year owing to the restrictions due to the pandemic, we are still going to fill all lamp posts with poppies and still raise money in a simple and safe way.
There will be a blank label on each poppy, if you wish you can write your own message or dedication. We would like you to pay a donation online or pop a donation into a poppy collecting box. There is also a text donation being developed by the RBL. More information on this will be updated on the I&C Poppy Facebook page and on posters. After donating you can email email@example.com with the sponsors name or who you are dedicating it to and we will do our best to acknowledge this online and also in the Local Mag.”

Around sixty boxes of poppies and collection/donation tins have been distributed by volunteers to various businesses, organisations and schools around the Irlam, Cadishead and Rixton districts. Please give generously when you can to support the fantastic work the Poppy Appeal does.
